How to Replace a Kia Sportage Replacement Key
For many Kia models the key comes with a built-in keyless entry system. The key functions like an remote control and can be exchanged with a Kia dealer.
Key fobs can stop working due to a number of reasons, such as a dead battery, worn-out buttons signals, signal interference or water damage. Here are some suggestions on how you can get your Kia Sportage replacement key back to working.
How do you replace the remote key or the smart key?
The battery inside your Kia's smart key will eventually have to be replaced, whether it is a remote key as well as a push-to start key or a regular metal key that doesn't have transponder. This is particularly the case if your car displays a message indicating that the remote or smart keys have low battery power.
It's an easy process. To replace the battery in the keyfob remove the mechanical key from the slot at the back of the fob. Then, pry the cover open. A small screw is found inside the key fob to keep the battery in the correct position. Using a small screwdriver, unscrew the screw and pull out the old battery. Then insert the new one and close the slit on the key fob.

After installing the new battery, turn the key fob off and on in the ignition until the door locks cycle. You can then test the Kia's key fob again to confirm that it's functioning properly.
How do I replace a smart keys
You may have either an ordinary keyfob or Smart Key, based on the model of Kia Sportage. The smart key comes with an embedded mechanical key blade however, the standard key fob does not. Both kinds of key fobs contain batteries that eventually will need to be replaced. Luckily, this is an easy process that takes just two minutes.
Before you begin it is important to make sure that you are on a flat surface with good lighting and that your Kia is not on. Be G28 that there are tiny components inside the fob which could fall out if you are not vigilant.
The first step is to locate the small release button on the backside of the fob. It could be an oval silver button or a rectangular slot. You can open the key fob by pressing the button.
Once the key fob is opened, take out the battery. The new battery should be a CR-2032 and can be bought online or from your local auto parts store. When you're done, the key fob should be able to lock and unlock your vehicle even if it's not running.

Close and open the door using the mechanical key. (Every Kia fob comes with an emergency mechanical key which will fit into the slot). Test the key fob to confirm it's working properly.
